Acid Reflux: Foods To Enjoy

When you are suffering from acid reflux, foods of certain kinds can be off limits or should be avoided. Finding foods to eat that won¡¦t trigger the acid reflux and that taste good can be challenging, but if you know which foods can help, you¡¦ll be ahead of the game. Avoiding some foods may be necessary, but you don¡¦t need to give up on good taste or good food.

One of the most important things to remember when choosing food is that it is important to eat small meals. Rather than three large meals each day, try eating at least six smaller ones. Smaller meals take less effort to digest than large ones and thus, are less likely to cause acid reflux.

You should also remember to stay upright for at least forty-five minutes after you¡¦ve eaten. This allows your stomach to better digest the food than if you lay down. Some times of day may be more tempting for you to recline before the time is up but if you take a short walk or take care of light activities, the time will pass quickly.

Keep in mind that you can also consume some foods that are marked as troublesome as long as you do so with caution and limit your intake. For examples, as long as you do so in moderation, you may be able to drink soda and eat items like cheese, garlic, strawberries, and low acid orange juice.

Even with restrictions, there are many foods that you can still eat. Here are some food groups and examples of foods within each that are generally safe for those who suffer from acid reflux:

„h Fruit: bananas and apples are both generally safe. You can also drink apple juice or eat dried apples.

„h Vegetables: baked potatoes, carrots, green beans, broccoli, and peas are all good choices in vegetables.

„h Meat: you can eat items like skinless chicken breast, egg whites, fish, and lean ground beef. Try to get low fat, extra lean meat when you choose to eat it. With fish, you should avoid adding any extra fat to the fish or meal.

„h Diary: opt for goat or soy cheese if you can. In addition, you can eat fat free cream cheese and sour cream.

„h Grains: starches tend to be good foods to eat with acid reflux so choose grains like breads, rice, cereal, pretzels, and graham crackers.

„h Desserts: nobody likes having to give up desserts and if you choose right, you won¡¦t have to either. Choose desserts like fat free cookies, baked potato chips, and jelly beans.

Having acid reflux doesn¡¦t mean that you have to stop enjoying food. Although you may need to be more careful about the foods you eat, there are still many choices out there. Choose acid reflux foods that won¡¦t aggravate the problem and remember to eat troublesome foods in moderation.
