Acid Reflux Burping, Oh My, Oh MyAre you aware about acid reflux burping? No. Then let us learn about this here in this article. Acid reflux or heartburn is a disease also known as Gastro-esophagal reflux disease (GERD) in the parlance of doctors. The basic symptoms of acid reflux include burning, bloating, belching and burping. Although, burping is common in normal people, but burping that is specifically caused due to acid reflux is known as acid reflux burping. Although, burping is not as such a disease, but when it is part of acid reflux burping, it refers to a specific symptom of acid reflux. In a laymans language, burping is a natural phenomenon in the upper digestive tract of the human body, akin to steam release from a pressure cooker relief valve, in which gas pressure in the stomach becomes high. The excess gas pressure in the stomach is consequently lowered to within normal limits, in the process of burping. The stomach gas pressure is always exerted against the lower esophagal sphincter. When this gas pressure becomes too high, it opens this sphincter and the gas travels up the esophagus.
This gas pressure then continuously builds up in the esophagus until it reaches a specific high value. At this juncture, the upper esophagal sphincter opens. This opening up of the upper sphincter releases the acidic gas from the esophagus out through the mouth into the atmosphere. This acidic gas release from the upper esophagal sphincter is accompanied by a specific sound called a burp, and this gas release from the mouth is consequently known as burping, which is acceptable to a certain level. Normal burping in humans takes place, once or twice, some time after every meal, and is entirely normal. But burping becomes problematic, when it becomes severe and more frequent due to acid reflux disease. At this stage, it becomes important to get treatment. When you know the symptoms of a disease, it becomes somehow easy to cure it, because if you are aware of the symptoms, you can consult a doctor or take natural remedies at the first stage itself of the disease. So, this knowledge of symptoms forces you to take remedial action and does not allow the disease to reach a chronic stage. The symptoms of acid reflux vary from one person to another, but some basic aspects remain the same. Most sufferers of acid reflux burping show the symptoms of this disease at night and that too after meals. However, these symptoms can and do show up at any point of time. Acid reflux disease can be prevented if you successfully make a few changes in your lifestyle. Even if you have triggered the disease at its initial stages, you can try to cure it. First of all you will need to stop smoking. You will need to also avoid alcohol and carbonated drinks. Moreover, you will need to eliminate fatty, spicy, and fried foods from your diet. You will need to avoid ginger, garlic, onion, and citrus fruits. But in case you have a severe and chronic acid reflux burping, it is advisable to consult a doctor. These days, medical science has developed all the necessary tools and medicines to cure almost any disease. Similar is the case with acid reflux. You do not have to worry at all. Your doctor will take care of your acid reflux burping through the prescription of a suitable treatment for your acid reflux disease. |
