Another thing you can do is to give you body a chance to digest your meals. Try to eat smaller, more frequent meals instead of only a few larger meals per day. Stay upright for about an hour after eating to better help your body digest the food. You should also avoid strenuous activity for an hour before or after you eat.

Other things that you can do include eating more slowly and trying to avoid foods that are high in fat. You may need to give up greasy burgers and fries and choose healthy, lower fat alternatives. You can also try taking antacids or H2 blockers when the condition flares up. Your pharmacists should be able to direct you to recommended products.

Generally, you can treat acid indigestion on your own with over the counter medications if you only get the problem from time to time.
